Boiler selection

Boiler selection

The condition for proper functioning of the solid fuel boiler is it's right selection. The size of the boiler (ie. its power) must be adapted to the heating requirements of the building.
If you are the owner of a new home, you can find a heat demand in the building project without any problem .

In case of a boiler replacement in an old house you often do not have access to the technical documentation or information on heat loss. In that case we can use the index method, which approximately allows you to specify the size indicative of the building heat demand.

Examples of surface indicators to determine the approximate boiler power:

  • 100 - 150 W / m² - houses without thermal insulation

  • 60 - 90 W / m² - well insulated buildings, built after 1990.

In the case of the high storey (above 2.7 m) cubic indicators are used :

  • 30 - 35 W / m3 - residential buildings

  • 15 - 25 W / m3 - production halls and warehouses.

In practice, solid fuel boiler work is affected by several factors, including the use of an alternative fuel of inferior quality with a lower calorific value, heat exchanger dirtiness . It causes lower power rating specified by the manufacturer.

Considering all negative factors boiler power selection, calculated by heat requirement, must be increased by 10 - 15 percent.

Looking for a boiler, which should meet our expectations, apart from knowledge of the heat demand, we must pay attention to:

  • fuel type, which will be burned in the boiler, not only by financial issues, but also its availability in our area
  • type of a boiler, we offer boilers with manual loading, at which maintenance-need at least once a day, and boilers with automatic fuel feeding. The main advantage of the latter is maintenance-free operation up to 7 days, economical and clean burning.
